Jalia Johnson is a Director of Financial Transformation at Trintech. For Women’s History Month, we asked Jalia a few questions about her experiences as a woman in tech and how she has seen workplace attitude toward women change over the course of her career.

What does innovation mean to you and how do you exhibit it in your daily life?
For me, innovation is the underlying force that moves me through my day. Innovation is synonymous with improvement, advancement, and originality and is the reality to getting through my day. Whether it’s finding how to improve on taking care of my family, helping to influence the people I cross paths with in life, or simply allowing my own individuality or originality to be shown through whatever I’m involved with; innovation isn’t just technology, it’s essential.

How do you leverage your perspective as a woman in the tech industry?
I believe being authentic and transparent can cure a multitude of sins but can keep the momentum moving forward. Being confident in my own abilities to partner with others is also an integral part to understanding my influence as a woman in tech.

How have generations of women in your family before you impacted the work you do in your job and/or your community?
Women in my family have a “get it done” and make it better mentality. That has been passed down and our charge is to continue to build on that premise.

Over the course of your career, how have you seen the workplace attitude towards women change?
I have seen slow progress, but any progress is good. There is still a lot of intentional work and allyship that needs to be cultivated to continue to change the narrative around women who lead.
