What does innovation mean to you and how do you exhibit it in your daily life?
Innovation to me means solving a problem better together. I am a geek at heart, so I rely on science to help me understand things better. Early in my career, I learned of a study that measured the success achieved by individuals versus groups in solving different problems. The results were interesting. No matter how talented an individual was, they were always outperformed by the group. I’ve thought of that study a lot over the years as I’ve seen it play out over and over in my life. It is absolutely true that you get better results together. I might think I figured something out, only to have it grow into something a lot better when I share the idea with my team. Connecting dots I didn’t even realize were there. But, it’s more than just that. I think there is a deeper truth. There is a magic you can create with a group in solving problems together. An excitement, an exhilaration, an experience. As people, I think that’s what we are meant to do, be better together.
